Spring 2019 TBR - Walking Through The Pages
Spring is such a weird reading season for me. Where autumn and winter are usually overly busy, I still usually manage to read quite a lot during those months. Spring, on the other hand, is quite a bit more relaxed, as far as work goes. So, naturally, I always find it hard to get much reading done. I’m trying to anticipate on that though, by reading a bit more varied – and that’s what this spring 2019 TBR is for! 1. Non-fiction 1. The Oxford Guide to Arthurian Literature and Legends: back when I was doing my degree in French literature and linguistics, my favourite courses were those on the older French literature. And, as it so happens, a lot of that consists of Arthurian legends. Did you know that most of the Arthurian stories were actually first put on paper in French? I certainly didn’t! (Goodreads) 2. I’d Rather Be Reading: this has been a “current read” for quite a while, at this point, so I’m mainly hoping to get this one done. After all – the only thing better than books? Well, it has to be books on book loving, right? (Goodreads) 3. The Romanovs: because a) history; b) Russia; c) royalty; and d) so many interesting characters! (Goodreads) 4. 21 Lessons for the 21st Century: this has been something of a recurring thing as far as non-fiction goes, but basically: I really love history. And science. And sociology. And this kind of combines a bit of all of those? (Goodreads) 2. Capital-F-Fiction 1. A Working Theory of Love: I’ve started this book about 3 times. I’ve also gotten stuck on the first couple of chapters each of those times. So I’m really hoping to finally get through those pages – after all, love, AI, computers learning languages… They’re basically the things I love in one book! (Goodreads) 2. The Pillars of the Earth: this book follows several characters through the ages. That’s basically all I know about this book. That, and that it’s over 1000 pages and that a friend of mine thought I would really enjoy it. Challenge accepted! (Goodreads) 3. The Goldfinch: tragedy, art, love… Same thing as I said for A Working Theory of Love: exactly the things I like in one book. Also, this spring marks exactly one year since I read The Secret History, my first read of Donna Tartt’s work, so it seems kind of symbolic to read another of her works now, right? (Goodreads) 4. the mermaid’s voice returns in this one: I don’t even need to explain myself on this one, right? I mean, I thoroughly enjoyed both the princess and the witch, so it only stands to reason I would – most likely – enjoy the mermaid as well! (Goodreads) 3. Fun reads 1. Red, White and Royal Blue: it has royals, it has love, it has commoners – and I got approved for the ARC and I honestly cannot remember the last time I’ve looked forward to reading an ARC as much as I do this one! (Goodreads) 2. A Wrinkle in Time: I only have the first book in this series, right now, but I’m really hoping to discover a new series I really enjoy. And if nothing else, at least I’ll finally know what all the fuss is about, right? (Goodreads) 3. The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle: this is basically just a matter of hearing a lot about this one on twitter, a couple of months ago. As per the usual, I’m impossibly behind on the facts, but still – I would really to give it a read! (Goodreads) 4. Charlotte Holmes-series: I mean, this series has been on my TBR since I mentioned the first one in my 2016 (?) TBR. And now the last book in the series has been published – so what better time to read the entire thing? Also – I need me some good detective stories. And apparently this one delivers on that front as well! (Goodreads) What books are you planning on reading this spring? Do you also have a TBR set up for this season? Or are you more of an improvisation-kind-of-person? Be sure to let me know below! -Saar
