Weekly Lists #6: Reasons to love Fall

Every Wednesday, I post a list of random stuff. This week: 5 Reasons to absolutely love the fall!

Do I know that fall is, generally-speaking, a universally well-loved time of the year? Sure! But that doesn’t mean that, sometimes, people don’t need just a little extra push to remember why exactly fall is so great again, even if they aren’t lucky enough to live it in surroundings such as this.

Well, you know – neither am I. So here are 5 other reasons to love the fall!

1. Pumpkin

Now, I’m not talking about Pumpkin Spice Latte, or whatever it’s called – for one thing: I don’t actually drink coffee, and for another: I don’t have the money to be able to afford Starbucks on any kind of a regular basis.
However, pumpkin is and probably always will be one of the most iconic, universally recognised elements of the fall. And there are so many other ways to enjoy it, than just that drink: pumpkin soup, diced and baked pumpkin with melted cheddar on top of it, pumpkin pie – I’ve made them all, I love them all. And, of course, apart from being absolutely yummy, pumpkin is just one of the most decorative vegetables, and I like it for that reason as well 🙂

2. Apples

Apple cider? Yes! Apple pie? Absolutely! Apple cake? Gimme! A hot apple, warm from the oven? Delicious!
I’m lucky enough to have a grandma who makes the most delicious baked apples, a dad who makes the best apple compote you have had in your lifetime, and I’m told I make quite the mean apple cake myself – not to forget: we have an apple tree, so all of those things are basically free!

Another great apple-dish: this homemade apple crisp! You really should go check it out here!

One of my absolute favourite apple-things, though, was Minute Maids Apple-Cinnamon Hot & Cold: you could drink it either hot or cold, it was absolutely delicious, and so, of course, it was discontinued in Belgium. And even if I could just heat up some ordinary apple juice and add a pinch of cinnamon, it just isn’t the same… (why do brands always do that? tease us with something yummy, then cruelly take it away from us?)

3. Fog

On this one, I very likely might just be alone – but you know what? I love that  moment when you’re walking home at night, you’re all nicely bundled up, and the fog is circling your legs – I live right next to a stream, so the moment it starts fogging, we get it real bad, and even after over 15 years of having to walk through it, I still love it. Then again: I am extremely privileged in that I know that I’m just walking through it in order to get to my nice and warm home, so I suppose that might have something to do with it as well.

4. Music

I know there is not really such a thing as “fall music”, but there are some songs that just sound like ‘fall’ to me – the biggest one of which is probably also the biggest cliche (but hey, I love me some classical music, and this is just perfect in every way):

5. The rain, the cold, the nature

Another thing which might just be limited to me only, but I’m a rain-person. I have hay fever, so spring isn’t really the best season, I can’t handle the heat (I actually develop an allergic reaction to it, if it’s too hot!) so, rain, cold, and all that stuff: I love it. Most of my family beg to strongly differ, but you know what? If they can openly love summer and spring, even though they know both of those seasons tend to be no fun for me (*ahum* understatement *ahum*) then I’m not about to keep quiet where my love of fall and winter are concerned (of course I also love winter, did that really come as a surprise?). I just plain old love it!

So there you have it, 5 reasons to love fall (or at least: 5 reasons why one could possibly like fall). Could I have mentioned hot cocoa, Halloween, warm tea, cosiness and so on and so forth more explicitly? Probably – but those I mentioned are 5 reasons from my top 10, so I figure they deserve their spotlight!
Do you like fall? Or are you more of a summer person? Do you also love the rain and the cold, or do you crave the sun after even a couple of minutes of those? Let me know below!
