2019 1st Book Haul!

For reference: when the bf saw me taking the pics for this post, all he could say was “wow”. And I almost started hyperventilating. Because, you know… While all of these purchase seemed “okay” in and of themselves? Put together into 2019 first book haul (and, honestly, my first haul of any sorts in a while)? Well… It’s almost embarrassing. And future proof that I should not be allowed to enter a book store on my own. Ever.

1. The Babysitters Club

I’ve been doing this thing for some years now, where I try and collect all the books I liked most as a kid. I’m still not really sure whether I’m doing it for posteriority, or just because, you know… Owning those books makes me feel better, more safe somehow? Either way, mid-January, I decided I really wanted to buy at least the first 8 books of the Babysitters Club-series. I’d found a pretty good deal on The Book Depository, and that was that.

However.

Then, a colleague told me that not only did she own the first 50-ish books of the BSC, she was actually looking to maybe get rid of them. That’s to say, she did want to keep the first couple of books, but since she no longer actually read them herself? Well, why let them take up space on her shelves, right? And that’s how I bought exactly 50 books of her, for 80 cent a book. I mean, I don’t know about you, but I’d consider that a deal!

And, honestly? I figured that would be it for the book-buying for the first bit of 2019.

Only, you know… Then this happened.

2. Diana Wynne Jones

Now, in all fairness, I had been planning on getting these books anyway. I wasn’t necessarily supposed to buy them all at once. Or all together. But there you have it, none the less. You see, I really like Diana Wynne Jones’ writing. She has this way of creating a world that is both so similar, and so distinct from our world… It’s kind of amazing to read through that – as I gushed about in my review of the Dalemark-series!

But anyways, I was sick for a large majority of February and… Well, basically, whenever I feel really down? I buy books. I guess it’s kind of the same thing that some people have with shopping-therapy? Only I don’t really care too much about the shoes, or the make-up – you’ll make me much happier with some books! Such as there are, for example, the entire Dalemark-series as well as all three books from the Howl’s Moving Castle.

But, of course, it still wasn’t over.

3. The random books

Because as I was getting the other books by Diana Wynne Jones, I came across this book that’s just about the writing of fantasy worlds. Which, you’ll have to admit, sounds fairly awesome.

And then there was The Pillars of the Earth, which a friend told me I had to read. And, you know… How do you say no to that?

And just to finish it all off: The Once and Future King – which, again, I’d been wanting to buy for a good while. Only, then it happened in those same months where I also bought everything else.

Honestly, I’m not even sorry. Well, I’m not, as long as I don’t also remember the 20+ e-books that have joined my collection since the start of this year. But, you know – I had to make do so I’d be able to get the right (do-able) books for the O.W.L.’s Magical Readathon! And also, well… I just wanted to.

I’ve not quite put myself on a book buying ban, although I am giving myself a max-budget for the next couple of months. After all, what with house-buying and stuff? The money is probably spent better elsewhere.

Anyways, there you have it that’s my 1st book haul for 2019! What books have you gotten so far, this year? Be sure to let me know below!
