Weekly Lists #21: Favourite Snacks: Guilty Pleasures
Every Wednesday, I post a list of 5 random things – this week: 5 of my favorite snacks – that are also huge guilty pleasures of mine!
Now, everybody probably knows the feeling, when you come home after a long day of paper-writing, classes, or, I suppose, for those of you who aren’t quite in the college-stages anymore, work, and you just need something yummy.
Unfortunately, that’s the point where your body decides that it doesn’t just want anything yummy – no, it needs something that is going to make you gain weight just looking at it, preferable with an addicting-enough taste that you just cannot stop at one.
You know the feeling?
Well, here’s 5 of the things I can just count on my body craving – every single time again!
1. Reeses Cups
How American of me, I know! As I probably mentioned in this post on the Glasgow-bit of our road trip through England and Scotland last summer, I’d been wanting to try the Reeses Cups for a while (blame Brooklyn and Bailey, they always talk about it like it’s the best thing ever), and in this random pound-store in Glasgow, I happened to come across some – of course, I bought one pack, went outside tried it, and went right back inside to buy some more.
I guess it’s a lucky thing they don’t seem to sell them anywhere in Belgium, because going through the trouble of ordering them on Amazon is just a bit too creepy for me – read: I don’t want to admit to myself that I actually like them that much – and that I don’t actually like peanut butter as such – sorry – because otherwise, I would still be eating 5 of those in one sitting, twice a day…
(I truly wish I were kidding, but I forgot to get groceries, I didn’t have enough time to cook something up before my next class, and they were just there… three days in a row… and then there were none…)
2. Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough
So, yeah, obviously, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is a thing – a staple, a must, a cliche, if you will. But here’s something weird about me: I don’t actually like vanilla ice cream. And my bf doesn’t like chocolate. So it’s just utterly perfect to buy a box of this deliciousness, give him all the yucky vanilla ice cream (even though I have to admit: less bad than that of some other brands) and keep all the pieces of cookie dough to myself – does that sound perfect, or what??
(owkay, I guess, if you actually like vanilla ice cream, it probably doesn’t, but hey, it works for us/me)
3. Starbucks Skinny Lemon Poppy seed Muffin
I’m probably one of the few people to crave Starbucks on a daily basis and yet hate the taste of coffee (and there you have it, a second thing of weirdness about me) but there’s a reason for that and it’s called their Skinny Lemon Poppy seed Muffin – I don’t really know to what extent Starbucks has this in not-Belgium (although I do know they have them in the UK! in Edinburgh! in London! in Paris! okay, so I try to find one wherever I go, so sue me :p ) but if your Starbucks doesn’t have these, I honestly feel kinda sorry for you, because they are the best freaking thing since, well, everything else in this list, basically…
Also: they make for a perfect treat when you just aced an exam and are on your way home to study for another one!
4. Cheese crocket
Yes, there’s actually something on this list that isn’t sweet! (Don’t worry, the next one is savoury too!)
Now, I don’t know to what extent this is actually (or isn’t) a thing outside of Belgium and the Netherlands, but basically, imagine this: the deliciousness of hot, gooey, melted cheese, covered in bread crumbs, fried in the greasiest of oil, resulting in something that is impossibly delicious…
And that makes your cholesterol rise from just thinking about it…
This is the fate I suffer – pining for this absolute delectable treat, so close, and yet so far away…
(sorry, I guess I got a bit dramatic on you for that one, didn’t I? Woops 🙂 )
5. Buggles with Goat’s Cheese
Now this may sound odd to those of you who aren’t familiar with the concept but, basically, imagine: some of the tastiest crisps in the world – shaped like little horns. Goat cheese, filling the horn, used as a means to stick another one in there, also filled with the same cheese, and so on, creating a long chain – allowing for a delicious mixture of tastes: the salty of the crisps, the tarty of the cheese, the crunchy of the crisps, the smoothness of the cheese – it’s a perfect combination, owkay? Just take my word for it!
And if you still don’t believe me, here’s someone who also likes this combo and took this fun picture online to prove it! |
So there you have it! Five of my absolute favourite, really shouldn’t eat these, why does all of this have to be so amazingly delicious yet also so incredibly unhealthy, guilty pleasure-snacks!
As always, be sure to let me know whether you have any hints for me to further ruin my figure, whether you also like these, and especially – what your favourites are!
