My Fall 2019 TBR
You know what? For some reason, reading has been the farthest thing from my mind lately. And I’m not okay with it. So this fall 2019 TBR? Basically my way of hopefully kickstarting myself back into reading on the daily. Let’s see what books I hope will get me going on that!
The escapism
Honestly – this is probably the category that I need the most. After all, with back to school leaving me death on my feet at the best of evenings? I need some books that will allow me to completely relax and get my mind off of all the school stress!
- Astrid Lindgren’s Fairytales: you know how you have those books that just make you all cuddly inside and they almost even make your worries go away? Just because of the simplicity and the nostalgia of the story? That’s what these stories do for me – and also, they’re just generally amazing
- Narnia pt 4-7: after reading part of the Narnia-series for the N.E.W.T.s readathon, I’m kind of in the mood for fantasy. I don’t know what it is, but something about the cosiness of fall makes me want to cuddle into a fleece and escape into a completely different world – and C.S. Lewis did that well!
- A Wrinkle in Time: because, honestly, I’ve owned this book for entirely too long and it’s about time I got around to reading it!
The classics
I don’t know what it is about fall, but I just constantly want to be cuddled up. And somehow, when thinking about being cuddly? Classics come to mind. Specifically, the type of classic that also excude that “sitting in front of an open fire”-feel.
- Little Women: am I a huge cliché yet? If not, just keep reading through this category, and I’m sure you’ll think I am by the end of it. But, yes, Little Women – especially as the new movie’s coming out soon, I really want to reread the actual book!
- Persuasion or Sense and Sensibility or Pride and Prejudice or one of their retellings – basically just anything Jane Austen. It’s been a while since I’ve gotten to actually read a complete Jane Austen book. And, honestly, when better to submerge myself into that world than in the midst of stress-season?
- Anne of Green Gables – book 2: don’t worry, I’m aware that this book has been included in just about every single TBR I’ve made in the last 4 years. So this year, I’m trying to maintain my sense of reality. Rather than give myself the (impossible) task of reading the entire series? I would just like to read the second book. Let’s see where that gets me right?
Honestly, this is about all I really want to put on my TBR, this year – after all, I’m currently being inundated in work, correcting, … So why make my life more difficult by setting myself impossibly high standards? (And why do I actually try to make myself believe that I won’t have those standards, even if I don’t explicitely put them down in a post here?)
Anyways – what does your fall 2019 TBR look like? Are you like me, going straight for the cosy reading? Or are you more so focussed on the seasonal options, reading the scary books for Halloween and all that fun? (That last one, btw, is just not an option for me – entirely too vivid of an imagination, I have).
