About Books #139: The Race Track Ruse
In the realm of things people assume I’d be interested in, somehow F1 doesn’t usually make the cut. It might be the fact that I don’t have a drivers’ licence – and am, quite honestly, usually somewhat scared out of my wits when I’m in a car. Who will tell, really, right? Those people would be wrong, though – I’m a fervent watcher of the sport … And the opportunity to read a fun romance about it? Well, let’s just say that The Race Track Ruse was right up my alley!
I was offered an ARC by Book Sirens in exchange for a review. All opinions are strictly my own.
The story
In the fast-paced world of PR, publicist Viola Parker finds herself facing her biggest challenge yet: her grumpy client, Noah King. The Formula 1 driver may be a star on the track, but off the track he’s a PR nightmare for sweet Viola. When bad press threatens to jeopardize Noah’s image, they must set aside their differences and embark on a fake dating charade to save his reputation.
As they navigate the glamorous world of F1 races and media scrutiny, sparks fly amidst their bickering. When the lines between fake and real emotions blur, Viola discovers there’s more to Noah than his gruff exterior.
The opinion
This book is about as fast-paced as the sport it so lovingly keeps at its centre. However, while that made for a bit of an ‘insta-love’ feeling, Viola and Noah do have the advantage of having a couple years of … Knowing each other? Annoying each other? Before they start fake dating. Either way, there’s a basis there.
More than anything, that’s what I really liked about the way the author built this story. We are dropped somewhat in medias res, but they show us exactly what we need to empathise with both main characters. And I have to admit: while I’m not usually that big a fan of “let’s try to actively mess with them a bit”, in this case? I was kind of loving it!
The rating: 3,5/5
If you’re in need of a fun, fluffy, and more than anything: speedy read, then The Race Track Ruse is definitely the book for you. Added bonus? There’s a dog you just might want to steal right off the pages – I know I did! (Goodreads)
