2016 Reading Challenges: May Update

Guess what?

I don’t have to complain about the fact that I have to finish my master’s dissertation anymore…

Because I FINISHED it!

That’s right, I finally managed to get it all worked out, printed, and even handed in!

2016 Reading Challenges May Update

Now, that, of course, means, I didn’t actually get a lot read outside of books for my master’s dissertation – but here’s the good news: there’s actually a ton of those!

And what’s better: almost all of them counted for my Goodreads Reading challenge!
Of course, I’m going to get started with that one, because that’s basically the best thing that’s happened this past month, at least reading-wise:

  • A Mother’s Gift, Britney and Lynne Spears
  • All the Bright Places, Jennifer Niven
  • Le Petit Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
  • Der Kleine Prinz, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
  • De Kleine Prins, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
  • Den Lille Prins, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
  • Lillie Prinsen, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
  • The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
  • Five on a Treasure Island, Enid Blyton
  • Pippi Langstrumpf, Astrid Lindgren
  • Pippi Langkous, Astrid Lindgren
  • Pippi Langstrømpe, Astrid Lindgren
  • Pippi Longstocking, Astrid Lindgren
  • Fifi Brindacier, Astrid Lindgren
  • Abeltje, Annie M.G. Schmidt
  • L’Ascenseur Volant, Annie M.G. Schmidt
  • Der fliegende Fahrstuhl, Annie M.G. Schmidt
  • Hissresan, Annie M.G. Schmidt
  • Den flyvende elevator, Annie M.G. Schmidt
  • Beyond Pippi Longstocking: Intermedial and International Approaches to Astrid Lindgren’s Work, Astrid Surmatz
  • La Princesse de Clèves et autres romans, Madame de Lafayette

Now, just to save you the trouble of having to count them: that’s 27 books. 27. And except for All the Bright Places, Five on a Treasure Island, Pippi Longstocking and Abeltje, they all counted for my Goodreads Reading Challenge (in other words: that’s 23 new books this months!

(And if you’re wondering, the reason I seem to have 4 books on there in, like, 6 different languages? that’s because I do have 4 books on there in 6 different languages – Comparative Literature, y’all!)
Now, as for the other challenges? Not as good as it might have been, but then again, it’s also better than it could have been!

I ended up having only 4 new places for the Read Around the World Challenge:

Luckily, the other challenges ended up being slightly more productive, even if I did have to use the same book in different languages to get to as many as I did… 🙂

Modern Mrs Darcy Reading Challenge: (and I only have to read one more book for this one!)

  • A book you’ve been meaning to read: Le Petit Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

PopSugar 2016 Reading Challenge:

  • A YA bestseller: All the Bright Places, Jennifer Niven
  • A book translated to English: Pippi Longstocking, Astrid Lindgren
  • A book written by a celebrity: A Mother’s Gift, Britney Spears
  • A book recommended by a family member: Abeltje, Annie M.G. Schmidt
  • A book that takes place during Summer: Five on a Treasure Island, Enid Blyton
  • A book with a blue cover: The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

(quick note: I first read the book by Britney Spears when I was about 14 and I really loved it then – read it again now and, although it is terribly cliché, it’s actually a really pleasant read!)

STXRYbooks 2016 Reading Challenge:

  • A book you bought so long ago, but still haven’t read: Le Petit Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
  • A book with a charachter that is very similar to you: Five on a Treasure Island, Enid Blyton
  • A book of which you really liked the movie, but haven’t read the book yet: Abeltje, Annie M.G. Schmidt
  • A book that makes you want to visit the place it’s set: Pippi Longstocking, Astrid Lindgren
  • A book that shows a different point of view: Der Kleine Prinz, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
  • A book that makes you a complete mess: All the Bright Places, Jennifer Niven
All in all, I’m finally back on schedule with the PopSugar reading challenge (I was lagging behind since January, basically) and I’m now ahead of schedule for all of my challenges!
(BTW: if you want to see what other books I’ve been reading, you should go check out my overview of all my 2016 reading challenges!)
Here’s to hoping this post will be slightly more varied next month, right?
Then again, the exams will have taken up the majority of my time up to that point, so I’m somewhat sceptical as to how successful that’s actually going to be…What have you been reading this past month? Be sure to let me know below!-Saar
