Classic Christmas Movies

There’s something about the holidays that tends to make me quite nostalgic. And, naturally, there’s always a bit of “heimwee” (a longing for somewhere, or sometime, which you are not at) with things you used to do as a kid. But the holidays take that a bit further. As December draws closer, I always find myself longing for a period when life seemed simpler, and the fashion more “swishy”. (Yes, that’s a real word – if only because I used it as such). And a big reason for that? These classic Christmas movies!

White Christmas

I’m not sure whether this is the first ever “classic Christmas movie” I ever watched, but it’s certainly the first one I remember making any type of impact on me. I’ve always been *slightly* obsessed with fifties fashion. So, when I was 17 and I came across a DVD of this movie. Bought it, watched it, now know all the songs by heart 🙂

Meet Me in St. Louis

If White Christmas is a classic, Meet Me in St. Louis is above and beyond. This is also the movie that introduced me to Judy Garland – that’s to say: it’s the first of her movies I ever watched. And to this day, the song from this movie – Meet me in St Louis, Louis, Meet me at the fair… – will be sung along if either me or the bf starts it.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

I honestly never even knew this movie existed. Until I had a crappy Sunday afternoon and needed something to take my mind off of it… And then the internet suggested this. I still don’t know exactly what I watched, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

It’s a Wonderful Life

This is one of those stories that you will either love or hate. No matter which camp you fall into, though? You have to watch it in black and white. I don’t know why, I don’t make the rules. Personally, I really enjoyed this movie – the bf definitely less so. It’s a good reminder, though, that sometimes life is just what it is – and all you can do is live it.
