Book Tags #15: The Guilty Reader Tag
So here’s a hint if you’re bored: just go to Hardback Hoarder’s and drown yourself in the tags. Seriously, she has a Tag Tuesday that has been running for so long that I could probably just take my inspiration from that on a weekly basis and stil not be done after a year. Because I’d also found the Guilty Reader tag on LilyCReads’ channel (a definite must follow!)? I figured it might as well be a sign that I had to do this one! (Also, I’m still doing #40DaysOfBlogging and quite frankly – I didn’t sleep enough last night so I’m all out of inspiration and I just felt like doing a quick and fun tag…)
(Also, talk about guilty pleasures – it was snowing here just two days ago, so naturally I had to go to my favourite snacks for such an occasion: Venti Signature Hot Chocolate from Starbucks with a slice of lemon cake. I’d feel guilty about it, but it tasted so. good. What’s your favourite guilty snack to eat while you’re reading?)
Have You Ever Regifted A Book That You’ve Been Given?
Yes. But as far as I can remember? Only two times. And in both cases it was because I’d accidentally gotten the same book from two different people. In the exact same edition.
(It took me a couple of years to figure out it was maybe best to give a different wishlist to everybody. You know, so those kind of situations would be avoided.)
Have you ever said you’ve read a book when you haven’t?
Only to every teacher I’ve ever had. Look, if you’re going to tell me I need to read a book? Especially if I have to do so by a certain date? Yeah, chances are that nothing of the sort is going to happen. Ever.
But I think that’s about it, actually. If only because I’m always too eager to put books on my TBR. And, you know, that kind of catches the attention?
Have you ever borrowed a book and not returned it?
Never on purpose – that I know of.
I know I have a couple of books that I borrowed from friends. Where I would return them and then borrow them again, so eventually they just told me to keep it. Does that count?
Have you ever read a series out of order?
Yes. I know I read the Dalemark-series completely out of order (I started with the last one, that should about do it, right?). The Chrestomanci-series is another one, but that’s just because my library didn’t have them all when I first read them. And then, of course, there’s just about everything by Kate Perry.
In general, though, those are all series that you can read out of order. As in: it’s not the best, but it doesn’t necessarily interfere with your understanding of the story as a whole?
Have you ever spoiled a book for someone?
Not that I know of. But that’s mainly because, growing up, I didn’t really have that many friends that also read. And even now, they usually read a completely different style than I do.
So I guess I basically just haven’t really had the opportunity to spoil too many people. Although… Maybe if they were reading one of my reviews?
Have you ever doggy eared a book?
Yes. Not to keep my place, but I used to have a nervous tic where I would role the corner of the pages of my books. I still don’t know why I did it, and I haven’t done it in ages… But, yeah, I had to physically sit on my right hand when reading library books in those days. You know, so as to not damage them 🙂
Have you ever told someone you don’t own a book when you do?
Not that I know of. But then again, I own quite a lot of books. It’s perfectly possible that at some time I just plain old forgot I already owned a book and said I didn’t. I guess that’s about the most innocent kind of guilty you can get? 🙂
Have you ever told someone you haven’t read a book when you have?
Yes. To avoid them asking questoins so I would accidentally spoil them. Or because I didn’t want to get into the whole thing. Or because I knew they felt vastly different than I did about the book. And again: I didn’t want to have the entire discussion…
Have you every skipped a chapter or a section of a book?
Absolutely. I’m an impatient reader. When reading non-fiction especially, I would always just skip to the sections I thought were most interesting. I’ve stopped doing that since I joined Goodreads though. I kind of don’t want to add a book to my Read-shelve if I haven’t read it entirely. DNF’s being the main exception to that rule, of course!
Have you ever bad mouthed a book you actually liked?
I don’t know if I would call this badmouthing exactly… But I did study literature, so quite often I could see from a purely objective point of view what was wrong with certain books. That has never kept me from enjoying the book, though, so… A couple of ones like Twilight and everything by Enid Blyton come to mind… I guess it’s like my reading-super power. I can completely compartementalize my “knowledge” of books and my “enjoying” of books. Good thing too, or I would have a real problem in finding books I could actually enjoy!
And that’s the Guilty Reader tag for you! If you haven’t done this one yet, feel free to consider yourself tagged now – I did it without prompting myself. Again: not enough bookish friends – or at least not in the blogging community :p If you have done it, do leave your link below, I would love to see your responses!
