A list of firsts

There’s something fun about a first, isn’t there? The excitemen, the stress, not knowing what will be next… And, in this case: the fun of knowing that it’s the first time writing about a lot of firsts! As you may or may not know, I’m currently participating in #40DaysofBlogging (#40DagenBloggen). Basically: one blogposts for each day of Lent. Now, I can honestly say I’ve lost track of how many days it’s been, at this point. I do know, however, that this morning I realised I’d run out of inspiration. So I looked to the #40DaysofBlogging orginator for some inspiration… And this is what I’ve come up with: a list of first!

The concept is as simple as it sounds: when did you first… And then my answers. If you would like to do this as well, be sure to leave me your answers (or a link to them!) below!

The first time you flew?

Was during my fifth year of highschool (we have six, so the equivalent to junior year, I think?)
We flew to Creta, where we spent a week during Easter break. It was…. amazing. We visisted Cnossos which was so beyond mind-blowing. I mean, I studied Greek in my second year of highschool and Latin through all 6 years, so to actually see something in real life that was, up to that point, just part of things I read? Just… mindblowing!

The first time you went to school on your own?

Second day of high school. I lived in the same town that I went to school in, so it was really only a 5 minute cycle. The first day, though? My dad came along. Because I was terrified and he’s just that nice 🙂

The first time you went on a holiday without your parents?

Depends on how you look at a “holiday”. If you’re just thinking any sort of a trip, probably my youth group-camp when I was 8. The theme was “witches and wizards”, my dad (again :p ) made me a broom ànd a witch hat and even an “invitiation to magic school”-letter. Think gothic writing, burnt edges, …

The first time you tasted alcohol?

I think I got to take a sip off of one of my parents’ glasses at some point? It seemed like such a huge deal, but it was mainly just a bit of let down. Or, well… awful.

Many years later, I still hate the taste of beer. I never recovered from that first taste!

The first cd/single/lp/cassettetape you bought/got?

A colllection cd called “Hitsfor Kids”. Yeah. It featured songs from the kids’ station’s tv-shows on one cd and contemporary music on the other cd. If it sounds cringe, it was. I also bought the follow up cd the next two or three years. It was awesome 🙂

The first person you ever saw dead?

Probably someone in a movie.

The first time you saw the sea?

Look, I live 5 minutes from the sea… So probably when I was a couple of days or weeks old?

The first bed you slept in after you moved out of your parents’ house?

Does going to college count as moving out? In that case, a bed that took up roughly half of the entire space in my first dorm room. If you’re talking “acutally moving out”… The one I’m sleeping in these days!

The first person with a different cultural background you ever spoke to

Eeehm… We travelled a lot and we always had friends at the places we would stay. The first one I can remember was a Dutch boy called “Merlin” with the blondest hair ever… But I’m told we had many friends before that and many after, so, there’s that.

The first place you visited outside of Europe?

I’ve never been outside of Europe! I would definitely love to, though!

And there you have it, an entire list of firsts! What’s some of your firsts? Be sure to let me know below!
