Weekly Lists #60: Favorite Children’s TV-Series

Yes, I’m back with another post on TV-series! However, this time there’s a bit of a twist: I’m talking children’s TV-series!

Everybody probably still has that one series that they used to just love when they were a kid. Although these are definitely some of mine, I’ve opted to include only series that were acted. That’s mainly because I’m planning on writing another post focusing on cartoons. And maybe also a bit because if I included cartoons as well, there’s no way I’d be able to limit myself to just 5!

1. Zorro

So here’s the thing: probably all of these series I got to know through Ketnet. That’s basically the public channel aimed at only children. Every night at 19h30, they would broadcast an episode of any of these series, and after that I’d have to go to sleep.

Zorro is probably one of the first series I remember watching on this channel, and to this day that intro song just makes me happy. Not only was the series amazing (apart from some blatant “the women need saving”, that is), but there’s just something about those kind of adventure series that I still love 🙂

2. Boy Meets World

I know I already mentioned this one in my first TV-Series I love-post, but I feel like it bears repeating: this show is amazing.

It shows so wonderfully what it’s like to grow up, it’s funny enough, emotional enough, well-acted enough, …

Its sequel doesn’t quite live up to the original series, but the mere fact that I got to watch Corey and Topanga again basically made up for that, for me 🙂

3. Skippy

This is another one that was probably already dated by the time I first saw it, however, I loved every bit of it.

For those of you who might not know it: it concerns a ranger and his family in Australia, who live quite far away from “cultured society” and basically just do their job.

Oh, and also – the youngest son has a pet-kangaroo.

Yeah.

It’s actually quite a bit more interesting than that description probably made it sound. For starters: it’s really family-oriented, but at the same time there’s always some sort of adventure, or mystery that needs solving. And of course: the youngest son and “his” kangaroo tend to save the day.

It’s amazing, really 🙂

4. Lizzie McGuire

I always felt like this was just sort of the female version of Boy Meets World, only slightly shorter. They even both have an annoying younger sibling!

Most anyone who grew up in the late 90’s and early 2000’s knows all about this one, probably, so I won’t bother spelling it out for you.

If you don’t know what this series is about – at all – however, just look it up. And then watch the entirety of it 🙂

5. Het Huis Anubis

Although this series now has been re-taped in various languages (like German) and has been broadcast in many countries (even some in Asia!), it was originally a Dutch/Belgian production.
And it was amazing.

It spawned a follow up-series, a couple of movies, three or four theatre shows and a whole bunch of singles and music.

To this day, I know most of the songs by heart – even if I technically was slightly older than the intended audience by the time it finished!

So, there you have it, 5 of my favourite children’s series – did you know all of these? Did you love them as much as I did (do :p )?
Be sure to let me know below!
